Strengthening Corporate Competitiveness, Expanding Business Domains
Since the privatization in September 1999, TFC begins the Corporate Reengineering and Change Management efforts in 2001 through reengineering in organizational and management measures seeking cost rationalization to cope with the drastic changes in business environment and the impacts after joining the WTO Free Trade Agreement. The goal is to swiftly transform the business structure and strengthening the corporate competitiveness to achieve “Three Years Transformation with Annual Differentiation”. Under the supervision of the Board and the endeavors from all employees, TFC switched from loss to profitable on the first year (2001) of the transformation effort with stable annual increasing profit and achieve a profit (pre-tax) of NT$ 1.042 billion last year (2003), a record for TFC in the last ten years.
The key to corporate success lies in its ability to “Expand Its Niches and Manage Its Deficiencies”. In the past three years, through continuous revolution and innovation, TFC is enhancing its business strength and ensure market leadership in the fertilizer and chemical engineering legacy businesses through strategies such as market mechanism, cost effectiveness, product marketing combination, superior services, domestic/international market expansion and seeking low cost benefits by setting up factories abroad. In the future, TFC will thoroughly conduct the transformation and shifting of business through the following four core business axis:
(1)
Promote Biological Organic Fertilizers:
With the increasing living standard and shift toward quality over quantity in Taiwan, organic agriculture products with the “Safety” and “Comfort” natures have been the new trend for the consumer market. In the future, TFC will be driven by market demand for organic and safety products and gradually transform traditional chemical fertilizers into biological organic fertilizers by applying biotechnology on agriculture products for quality shift and mass production. TFC setup “TFC Biotechnology Research Center” in 2002 for the research and development of the following biotech fertilizers:
a.
Agricultural effective micro-organisms development
b.
Biotech organic composite fertilizers development
c.
Biotech organic fertilizers development
d.
Biotech nutrients development
(high potassium, high nitrogen and high K ingredients)
e.
Kitchen waste organic composite fertilizer development
TFC's goal is to maintain agricultural eco-environment, ensure enduring agriculture business and assist farmers in producing high value-added agricultural products for consumer user.
(2)
Develop Deep Ocean Water And Marine Biotech Industry:
Situated near the Hualien Port and the Pacific Ocean, TFC's Hualien plant possess rich marine resources and is currently introducing “Superintensive Recirculation System” for the breeding of white shrimp and planned taming, ranching of Taiwan Tilapia. Hualien plant is also aggressively conducting “Deep Ocean Water (DOW)” development assigning Japanese think tank “MIC” for the planning and feasibility study with the following three stages.
Stage I. (2005~2006): focus on DOW industry park starts with DOW watering, water production engineering and drinking water/beverages/edible salt manufacturing. Follow by beer, cosmetic products, cleaning products, frozen fisheries, marine farming, algae farming, food processing and health drugs…etc.
Stage II. (2007~2008): focus on theme parks development such as aquarium, botanic garden, amusement park, seafood restaurant and shopping center…etc.
Stage III. (2009~2010): construction of recreational/sightseeing hotels, marine SPA and culture villages…etc.
(3)Expand TFT-LCD Related Industries:
In the past few years, TFC has been actively transforming itself by setting up high purity electronics chemicals production facility in 2002 to supply the needs of local TFT panel industry with daily Stripper production of 35 kiloliter and daily chemical cleaner of 10 kiloliter currently. TFC has developed the production techniques in recycling and reusing semiconductor acid waste and TFT aluminum etching solution into fertilizers. TFC is also joining with ITRI in developing semiconductor solvent recycling technology hoping to setup “High Purity Chemicals Recycling Center” to serve customers in reducing cost and increase revenue by conducting waste processing while contribute our dedication to the society. In the future, TFC is also planning for the development of a “Semiconductor and Flat Panel Recycling and Reuse Center”.
(4)Comprehensive Use Of Land Resources, Complete Land Development According to Near, Medium, Long Term Development Plan:
Of the 180 acres of lands owned by TFC, besides the 136 acres required for the factory operation of legacy productions, the remaining 43 plus acres of land will be developed into business districts, housing, specialized distribution center, commerce and trade districts…etc. TFC will not only gain from the increase in land value, we will also be able to expand our business domains.
